I’m from Toronto, Canada but I have also lived in New York, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, and Montreal in the past.
The first article I wrote was for the Camp Walden newspaper at 16 years old. My parents used to send me Newsweek magazine to camp.
I’ve always been a freelancer writer. I just started selling articles, then books, then more articles and books, and then talks. Today, I mostly write books and give talks about those books.
I work from home. I’ve never worked anywhere else. Why would you? I shave about once a week.
I love interviewing people more than I do writing, but there is something about writing that I also really enjoy.
I’ve got a wonderful family and great friends, which makes the loneliness of being a self-employed writer much more pleasant.
Lunch is sacred. I adore lunch meetings.
I wanted to be a war correspondent when I began as a journalist. Instead I ended up writing about wine in Argentina, and then a book about pastrami. We all fight our battles…
I ski far better than I surf, but I dream about surfing more.
I was born in 1979. So now you know how old I am.
